The "surge" has worked, or, more accurately, General Petraeus' strategies, implemented as part of the surge, have worked. Do improved conditions mean that U.S. forces ought to remain in Iraq beyond Spring, 2009 in order to consolidate the gains that have been made? In my mind, this is an open question. Pending further developments in negotiations with the Iraqi government, however, I am adhering to my earlier promise to remove U.S. forces from Iraq by Spring, 2009. Complete withdrawal from Iraq in 2009
September 27, 2007Republican presidential candidate Samuel Berry is one of the increasingly few candidates of either party to advocate complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq in 2009. It remains his intention, if elected, to withdraw all U.S. troops from Iraq by Spring, 2009.
